3D Printing Adelaide
We run both filament and resin printers in Adelaide, which means we can take a job down whichever path suits it rather than forcing every part through one process. Functional components go on the filament machines. Anything where fine detail matters goes on resin.
FDM, filament printing
Best for parts that have to do a job. Brackets, housings, replacement fittings, jigs, enclosures and prototypes that need to be handled and tested rather than looked at.
- PLA, rigid and dimensionally stable, good for prototypes and parts that stay indoors
- PETG, tougher and more temperature tolerant, a better choice for anything that lives outside or takes knocks
- ABS, heat resistant and machinable after printing
- TPU, flexible, for gaskets, grips and anything that needs to bend without breaking
Resin printing
Best where surface finish and fine detail decide whether the part works. Miniatures, jewellery masters, intricate models, casting patterns and small components with detail too fine for a nozzle to resolve.
Available in clear, coloured and tough resins. Tough resin is the one to ask about if the part needs to survive being dropped, since standard resin is rigid but brittle.
Print size
We print up to around 400 × 400 × 400mm, with most jobs sitting nearer 300mm. Parts larger than the build volume are printed in sections and joined, which for many shapes gives a better result anyway because it lets each section print in its strongest orientation.
Finishing
A raw print is rarely the finished article. We offer sanding, priming, painting and clear coating, so parts can leave here looking like a product rather than a print. Worth doing for anything customer-facing, display pieces and prototypes going in front of people who need to take them seriously.
Design and CAD
You do not need a model to start. We do CAD design and 3D modelling for product prototypes, custom fittings and one-off parts.
We also reverse engineer. If a part has broken and the replacement is discontinued or was never sold separately, send us the original or the pieces of it. We measure, model and print a replacement. It is often the only route left once a manufacturer has stopped supporting something.
Casting and moulding
Printing is sometimes the means rather than the end. We do silicone and polyurethane casting and moulding, which pairs naturally with a resin-printed master. It suits art pieces, candle moulds, resin products and short runs where printing each unit individually would make no sense.
File formats and quoting
Send an STL, STEP or OBJ and we will quote it. If you do not have a model, send photos, measurements or a sketch and we will tell you what is involved in drawing it.
Price depends on material, print time, how much post-processing you want and whether we are designing the model. There is no standard rate we can quote in advance without seeing the job.
Turnaround
Straightforward prints usually run one to two weeks. Jobs that include design work, reverse engineering or substantial finishing take longer, and a large commission can run to a month. Tell us your deadline when you enquire and we will be honest about it.
Frequently asked questions
Should I choose filament or resin?
If the part has to be strong or large, filament. If it has to be detailed or smooth, resin. If you are not sure, describe what the part does and we will pick for you.
Can you print a replacement for a broken part?
Often, yes. Send photos and measurements, or post us the broken part. Parts that were originally injection moulded in engineering plastics are the hardest to match, and we will say so upfront rather than take the job and disappoint you.
Do you print in colour?
Filament comes in a range of colours, and resin in clear and coloured options. For an exact colour, printing in a neutral and then painting gives a far better result than trying to match filament.
Is a printed part strong enough to use?
It depends on the part and the material. PETG and ABS handle real loads. Printed parts are strongest along the print layers and weakest across them, so orientation matters, and that is something we set when we prepare the job.
Do you do small production runs?
Yes. Beyond a certain quantity, casting from a printed master usually works out better than printing each unit, and we can advise on which side of that line your job falls.
