Laser Cutting Adelaide

We run a CO₂ laser in Adelaide and cut for anyone who needs something made properly rather than approximately. Most of our work is signage and decor, but the machine does not care what the job is. If it is cuttable, send it through.

What we cut and engrave

  • Acrylic in gloss and matte across more than 20 colours, plus gold and silver mirror, frosted and clear. 3mm is standard and we cut 6mm where a piece needs rigidity.
  • Timber and MDF, including melamine-laminated MDF for panels that need a finished face straight off the sheet.
  • Engraving on all of the above, for logos, names, dates, line art and fine detail.

If we do not stock the acrylic colour you want, we source it. Very little has ever been out of reach.

Cutting size

Curved routed edge on a large sign panel, cut beyond laser bed size and hand finished

Our bed cuts up to roughly 370 × 580mm in a single pass. That covers the overwhelming majority of signage, lettering, decor and small-batch work.

Larger pieces are not a problem, they are just built differently. Panels beyond bed size are made up from a timber or MDF substrate with laser cut acrylic applied and finished by hand, which is how we produce signage up to 2.1 by 2.1 metres. See event signage for what that looks like in practice.

Shape is not a limitation at that scale either. Where a piece needs curves, an arch or any cut profile larger than the bed, we bring in a router and other tooling to cut the shape, then finish the edge by hand. A two metre arched panel is entirely achievable. It is simply made a different way to a two hundred millimetre one.

Send us your files

We accept SVG, AI and DXF. Send your file before you commit and we will check it is cuttable, at no cost.

A few common problems are worth knowing about before you send anything:

  • Open paths. A cut path has to be closed. Outlines that look joined on screen frequently are not.
  • Strokes instead of shapes. Text and line work need to be converted to outlines, not left as live fonts or stroked lines.
  • Island detail. The middle of an O, or the dot of an i, becomes a loose piece once the surrounding material is cut away. Script fonts and detailed logos need bridging or a different approach.
  • Strokes too fine to survive. Very thin elements can cut cleanly and then snap when handled. We will flag anything at risk.

None of this needs solving before you contact us. Send the file as it is and we will tell you what needs changing.

No file? We design it

A large share of what we cut is drawn by us from a description. Tell us what you want and we will produce the artwork, show you a mockup, and revise it a couple of times before anything is cut. Nothing goes on the laser until you have approved it.

We also do 3D design and CAD work for prototypes, custom fittings and reverse engineering of parts that are damaged or no longer made. See 3D printing for the printed side of that.

What people use us for

  • Custom lettering, names and text cutouts
  • Wedding and event signage
  • Business logos, reception lettering and shopfront pieces
  • Keepsakes, gifts and awards
  • Small production runs of identical parts
  • Prototype components and jigs
  • Templates, stencils and one-off replacements

Turnaround and pricing

Standard jobs run one to two weeks from approval. Large commissions with significant design work can take a month or more. A rush option is available when we have the capacity for it, so ask if your deadline is tight rather than assuming it is not possible.

Every job is quoted individually, since price depends on material, cutting time, how many pieces you need and how much design work is involved. Send us the file or the description and we will come back with a number.

Local to Adelaide

We are Adelaide-based, so local customers can arrange pickup or delivery rather than paying to ship. Smaller cut work ships Australia-wide without any trouble. Oversized panels stay local by default because of how they travel.

Frequently asked questions

Can you cut metal?

No. A CO₂ laser cuts non-metals. We work in acrylic, timber and MDF.

Can I supply my own material?

Ask us. It depends on what the material is and whether it is safe to cut, which not everything is.

Do you do one-off jobs or only bulk?

Both. A single piece is fine.

How accurate is the cut?

Laser cutting holds far tighter tolerances than routing or hand cutting, and the edge comes off the machine finished rather than needing sanding. On clear acrylic the cut edge is effectively polished.

Can you engrave photos?

Photographic engraving is possible on timber and some acrylics, though results depend heavily on the source image. Send it through and we will tell you whether it will work before you pay for it.
